Marijuana Business Daily posted last week’s chart of the week, showing statistics from their Marijuana Business Factbook 2015. Cannabis cultivation in the US is still dominated by indoor marijuana growing facilities. Perhaps what is even more surprising than the domination of indoor grow ops over greenhouse marijuana growers, is that outdoor marijuana production is also six times greater than the marijuana production in greenhouses.

If you are at all interested in cannabis as a growing industry you are already aware that while the US Federal Government labels marijuana a schedule 1 drug with no medicinal benefits, they also hold a patent titled “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants” which was awarded in 2003. And while possession of the flower remains a serious criminal offence, President Obama and the US Attorney General have decided to allow individual States to determine their own set of rules within their borders.

Alaska offers challenges to the typical cannabis grower that go beyond the regulatory concerns of a state. Cannabis growers in Alaska rely heavily on companies like GGS who have the experience of setting up marijuana cultivation facilities worldwide.

All over the United States and Canada the same discussion can be heard:  Where should we grow marijuana?  Is it an agricultural crop that should be grown and harvested on farms and in commercial greenhouses, or is marijuana medicine that should be processed in industrial factories?
